A couple of weeks ago I was talking to a passionate young resident from a nearby hospital about Kambo. I was sharing about the remarkable healing impact I had seen this medicine have on chronic pain. He told me that actually, a lot of time when people are experiencing chronic pain, the part of the body that was actually in pain has already healed, but for some reason the brain keeps firing in such a way that a person thinks the pain is still there (🤯).

He said, I wonder then outside of the pain relieving peptides in Kambo, does Kambo have any peptides that work on the brain? He said he thought that what might be happening in some cases, is that Kambo is somehow helping with neuroplasticity.

I didn’t realize when I chose to walk my authentic path, that I was also deciding to take a front seat as a forever student. I couldn’t understand then like I do now, and I know still that I am just exploring the tip of the iceberg.

Every client that steps into my space is my teacher.

But… those rare ones. The ones that have cultivated the vulnerability and courage to live as their truly authentic selves. To embrace their experience and share their story in a way that educates and offers others permission to just simply be their authentic selves as well.

Well, those teachers inspire me in a very special way.

I have a friend that used to call us wobbly humans. All just wobbly humans, trying to figure it out. And realizing along the way that our experience is valid enough, just because it simply is. That we are enough, just because we simply are.

Thank you for being a brother on this path. Your light changes the world, and your light has changed me.

The cold purge.

People often mistake purging for vomiting. It’s not. To purge is to release.

Through cold and shivering, heat and sweating, yawning, sighing, cracking joints, movement/somatic release, energetic/vibrational release, spitting, crying or emotional release, story-telling/shedding, vomiting, and going to the bathroom.

What needs to go, goes - in a way most efficient for however it’s being held in our bodies and is ready to be released.

To purge is to release. And it’s okay to let it go ❤️

I am never excited to go into ceremony. Excited is definitely not the word I would use.

It’s never like ‘Fuck, yeah. Ayahuasca tonight 😍🤙’

Not at all, ever, for me.

Instead, every time, in the hours before ceremony my mind churns wondering if I really want to do this, tonight. Do I really want to make the 7 hour-ish commitment to yoking my awareness back to the present moment? Having my self-reflective mirror polished while I endure witnessing the murk and fog that has been there, while it is wiped away? Do I really want to surrender to such a profound offering for healing and whatever it entails this time, again?

The medicine has always been gentle for me, and for that I am so grateful. Gentle in her healing but powerful in the way I experience and connect with her, if that makes any sense.

I love the plants.

People talk about going to hell in ceremony, about these crucifying ego deaths they experience. That has never so much been the case for me. I feel, in fact, that I have been forced to endure more ego deaths in my actual mundane life. I wondered earlier today if I would have preferred that these had happened in ceremony. I realized that energetically they are probably close to one in the same.

When I have the opportunity, I always show up. When it feels authentic and aligned and my intentions are true.

I always receive healing. Somehow after the somewhat sleepless nights, I wake up rejuvenated.

Ayahuasca has awakened the intelligence of my body in really codified and energetically powerful ways. Reinforced basic truths about integrity, reciprocity and focus. Love. Being my best self and living my best life, how to share my best self with others. She has reminded me countlessly how blessed I am to have the people I love in my life and helped my being to evolve. What I have experienced working with this medicine has truly felt like an evolution of my own self.

Anyway, that has just been my experience. Every time I get ready to recommit my mind churns wondering if I really want to commit to this, again, tonight. The answer is always, yes - I do. And I am so grateful.

It’s not always pleasant, but the medicine is working.

When people come to yoga, they have a better understanding that it’s not going to be one class and done forever. It’s a path and a practice - that reveals itself, that supports us - as much as we show up to meet it and are in devotion to it. As much as we show up to meet ourselves.

It’s no different with these medicines. A lot of it is dependent on your intentions. You might come receive benefits from one session and that might be enough for you for the time being, or you might feel called to go a bit deeper.

If we come to yoga hungover, we have a better understanding that the practice might be a bit less pleasant that day. If we have a lot to clear out, the first sessions with sacred medicines reflect that just the same. It is important to understand that while some of the stuff we might be clearing is ours, some of it isn’t and has been passed down through generations or can be part of a collective healing.

It might not be pleasant, but it is cleansing. It is healing.

Working with these medicines is a path, just like yoga. It is a practice, and the medicines work as much as we do. The deeper truth is that these paths - yoga and plant medicine, are actually one <3

Sacred Tobacco, thank you.

Tobacco is revered throughout many indigenous cultures and native peoples, but why?

In working with Ayahuasca under the Shipibo tradition, Mapacho (pure tobacco grown in the region) is sometimes spoken of as the male counterpart to the feminine Ayahuasca, almost like her husband.

The smoke from tobacco is used to protect from negative or denser energies and also used to smudge these - similarly to sage or palo santo. The smoke from tobacco is also said to carry our prayers to Spirit.

It is a common practice to charge unsmoked, pure tobacco with prayers through whistling or intentional thoughts. When the tobacco is burned or smoked, it is said to carry these prayers to Spirit. I have also charged tobacco with prayers and offered this back to Earth when I have visited meaningful places.

There are medicinal uses of tobacco used in juice form to help physical ailments and tobacco is the base for the more popular medicine of hape, which is a finely ground blend of medicinal herbs used to focus the mind, clear out noise and for meditation.

It’s interesting because, in my experience, tobacco offers one of the first potent opportunities to unlearn and relearn with this work. Because of how we have been exposed to tobacco in the states (combined with many harsh chemicals and smoked in angst rather than in prayer), many people come to this work with a strong aversion to tobacco, when in it’s purest form - this plant is an incredibly powerful medicine, ally and teacher.

Science explains this is due to the vasodilator peptides that increase blood flow in the body. Indigenous people say the heat during the first half of sessions is Kambo scanning all of the bodies - the physical, mental, emotional, energetic - to see what needs to be cleared. Both are true.

In the second half of sessions everything drops and the client becomes slightly paler than normal. Bufo is considered the God Molecule - and for good reason. This medicine does offer a merging with the divine, oneness in a way I have never experienced before.

But the thing is, through the last 10+ years of deep dedication to medicine work and yoga, I have started to truly understand that God is present is every thing. Every rain drop, every cell of my body, and every blade of grass. Divine, for me, exists just as much in the mundane as it does in the extraordinary.

For me, what is extremely distinct about Bufo is what a cosmic medicine this is, and the opportunity to experience this oneness in such an expansive and inclusive way.

Every medicine has its own unique energetic design and helps with different things. Bufo reveals the vastness of the beautiful living tapestry each of us is a part of in a way I have never experienced with any other medicine. It truly does feel like a dissolution back to Source. And it helps to clear out anything we are holding that is in the way of us fully remembering that.

It feels really special to have such an experiential remembrance while still in this human form 🤓💓🪐

As humans we have a tendency to over complicate things. It’s important to do our due diligence in ensuring the space we are stepping into is held well and we have prepared intentionally, but once we step onto the mat to meet the medicine - it’s really this simple 🫶

Thank you for letting the whispers of your heart remain louder than the noise that surrounds you.

Thank you for following the bread crumbs Spirit laid out for you, and thank you for trusting your path.

This human life is not easy, but you knew from the start — it was not designed to be. Nevertheless, you agreed to come, because you could.

You are so wise, Nicole, trust that wisdom.

Thank you for your wild heart and willingness to change perspectives. Your sensitivity is a gift, hold it sacred and dear. Feed your curious mind and always ask questions - especially when they tell you not to.

At times it will feel lonely but you are never alone. You will find your people, but they are few and far between. Stay true.

You have the resilience to get back up and keep going, stronger than before, every time life tries to knock you down. And it will - over and over again. Cultivate your focus and shine light on others along the way. Most important of all, remember to always choose love over fear.

You’ve done a lot of work to get here. Keep going.

Nicole - you truly are extraordinary. Supported, protected and held.

Sweet girl - you are a teacher and forever student, and you have everything you need.

May you always remember that, in every moment… very simply, you are light.

Slide 3 - when I was about two years old I started grabbing whatever big bag I could find and telling my parents I was leaving. They thought there was something wrong, but I know it had nothing to do with anything other than I knew I had places to go, people to meet and life to experience. I was getting ready 😂
